There's no one reason people choose to binge drink.
You've probably even heard some of the most common reasons:
- I just want to get drunk.
- People think it's cool when you can drink a lot.
- Everybody else is doing it.
- My friends are telling me to do it.
- I'm stressed out about work (or school).
When you actually write those reasons down, they don't exactly make for compelling arguments, do they?
But like most things in life, it's a different story when you're actually in a situation where there is the potential for binge drinking. After all, some people don't intend to go binge drinking. They're just out having a few drinks with friends and either get carried away or buy into the idea that getting drunk is part of a good time.
But the reality is that the people who go out and get drunk are in the definite minority. If you don't think so, take a good look around the next time you're out. The people who are drinking excessively will probably be pretty easy to pick out of the crowd...because once they're drunk, they're not really part of the crowd anymore.
Just look around. Your own eyes will tell you; getting drunk isn't as common as you might think.
