Excessive drinking is sometimes referred to as binge drinking.
In studies, binge drinking is most commonly defined as having five or more drinks on one occasion .
But there are people who object to this definition because they feel it's too narrow. They may argue that it doesn't take into consideration things that affect tolerance levels, such as a person's height and weight. They may also say that it doesn't define how long an "occasion" is - if it's a couple of hours or an entire night.
So, to avoid any arguments, just think of binge drinking as drinking too much alcohol at a given time ; going out and getting drunk. After all, no matter who you are, where you are or how often you drink, too much is still too much.
